What is the Legacy folder in After Effects animation presets?

Legacy holds older presets that Adobe keeps for compatibility. They still work in After Effects 2026. Some are made for text layers, some for footage or solids, and several come in NTSC and PAL sizes.

Does After Effects have built-in sound effects?

Yes. The Sound Effects folder has presets such as Blaster, Busy, DTMF and RingingPhone-US. They use the Tone effect to generate audio on any layer, so no audio file is needed.

How do I use a sound effect preset?

Make a new solid, select it and double-click the preset in Effects & Presets (Animation Presets › Sound Effects). Press the . key on the numeric keypad to hear an audio-only preview.

Why does a legacy preset look different on my layer?

Many legacy presets were built for standard-definition frames (NTSC or PAL). On a larger composition you may need to scale the masks or change the effect settings after applying them.
