How do I add an effect in After Effects?

Select a layer, then pick the effect from the Effect menu, or type its name in the Effects & Presets panel and double-click it. Its settings appear in the Effect Controls panel.

Why are some After Effects effects missing from this list?

An effect is shown only when it visibly changes the test image with simple settings. Effects that need a second layer, a camera, audio or footage with motion (keying, time and tracking effects, for example) are left out.

Are the CC effects part of After Effects?

Yes. The effects whose names start with CC (Cycore) are installed with After Effects and need no extra plugin.

How do I remove an effect?

Select the effect in the Effect Controls panel and press Delete. To remove every effect from a layer, press Ctrl+Shift+E (Cmd+Shift+E on Mac).
