How to apply Block Dissolve - random
- Put the two clips on separate layers so they overlap in time.
- Select the upper layer and move the playhead to where the transition should start.
- Open Window › Effects & Presets, paste the name in the search box and double-click Block Dissolve - random.
Press U on the layer to see the keyframes, and drag the last one to change how long the transition lasts. To play it backwards, select the keyframes, right-click and choose Keyframe Assistant › Time-Reverse Keyframes.
Where is Block Dissolve - random in After Effects?
Open Window › Effects & Presets and go to Animation Presets › Transitions - Dissolves. It is quicker to type the name in the search box at the top of the panel.
Do I need to download Block Dissolve - random?
No. It is installed with After Effects; this preview was rendered in After Effects 2026. On disk it is an .ffx file in the Presets › Transitions - Dissolves folder inside the After Effects application folder.
How do I change Block Dissolve - random after applying it?
